Employee Onboarding

Welcome to Shakti - Onboarding Process!

This is a summary of all the steps required to be come a Shakti employee. At this point, you should be in contact with Isabelle at the Human Resources Department. She will be your primary contact throughout your onboarding process.

Shakti uses Slack for our company communication channel, it is essential that you download the app and register in our company workspace. 

Downloading Avenza, and Zoleo applications is also necessary for work at Shakti. 

Step 1: Complete our employee profile using our shakti app.

This will be provided to you by Josh at [email protected]

The app is called app.shaktitrees.com incase you ever forget.

Check your training progress, upload certifications, and complete quizzes on the Training Overview.

Green circles mean done, tap or click on red circles to complete.

If you need to upload a certification that isn't on the list, let Isabelle or Josh know and one of us can add it for you.

Step 2: Short Term Contract and Federal, Provincial Tax Forms.

These must be completed by every employee, every season.

Federal, Alberta and British Columbia Tax forms wil be sent to you along with your employment contract and Special Work Site Allowance via docusign.

Step 4: Complete our Online Video Training through our Shakti Courses.

This Shakti "Classroom", acts as your virtual trainer it contains training on all our Policies and Procedures. 

Step 5: 3rd Party Safety Certifications

Being a part of Shakti means having incredibly high safety standards, We expect all our employees to have the following safety tickets before beginning work. Save your receipt to upload through our expense form found in the app, the cost of this course will be reimbursed by the company.

First Aid

Either Standard First aid CPR-C & AED or OFA Level 1 with TE Certifications are acceptable. You can complete the course with any recognized training organizations like the Saint Johns Ambulance or Red Cross in Alberta. 

H2S Alive

H2S Alive Certifications can be found by many trainers throughout Alberta.

Common Safety Orientation (CSO)

You will need a valid common safety orientation certificate. 

WHMIS

You will need a valid WHMIS certificate.

Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG)

You will need a valid TDG certificate.

Step 6: Drug and Alcohol Testing

Drug and Alcohol testing is required to work for Shakti Reforestation.

Tests must be complete as close to your first work day as possible. 

You may need to complete more than 1 test during the season, depending on the request of our clients. 

Option 1:

• Lab 10-Panel + Fentanyl Urine Test

• Alcohol Breathalyzer

• THC Cut-Off: 15/50 ng/mL
  ⚠️ Highly sensitive: can detect THC up to 45 days prior (this may vary depending on the individual)
  
  

Option 2:

• Lab 10-Panel + Fentanyl Oral Fluid Test

• Alcohol Breathalyzer

• THC Cut-Off: 2/4 ng/mL
  ⚠️ Detects THC use up to ~8 days prior (this may vary depending on the individual)
  
  

Choosing the Right Test: 

• Urine Test: Ideal for those who do not use THC, or are confident they will pass.

• Oral Fluid Test: Better for those who consume THC and want a shorter detection window.
  
  

Note - Urine tests are half the cost of oral fluid tests. For this reason we would encourage anyone who is confident that they will pass the Urine Test to utilize this option. However, anyone who desires to take the Oral Fluid test is encouraged to do so without any judgement or stigma associated with the decision.

Test Payment and Retesting:

• Your first pre-employment test is covered by Shakti.

• If you do not pass, you may retest at your own cost.

• No one can begin work until they’ve passed the test.

When To Test and How? 

Tests must be taken as close to the start of work as possible. Late testing may result in testing results not arriving in time for the first day of planting and you will have to miss work until your results arrive.

Select the site most convenient for you and call to book an appointment. Call 800-440-0023 and use option 4. The name of your account is: TELUS ENVIRONMENTAL SOLUTIONS INC. O/A SHAKTI REFORESTATION there’s also an aka field that has you as SHAKTI REFORESTATION LTD. If you call in just asking for Shakti the account will still populate. The account number is IND17479.

Driver Training

In order to drive at Shakti you must complete the Resource Road Driver Training, if for some reason you are unable to attend the training a compentency evaluation can be used for he short term until the next training is available.

Drivers Abstract/ Driver's License

If you would like to be a driver at any point during the season, we will need a photo of your drivers license and a valid drivers abstract, you get this from whichever your province your license is from.

We need this information so we can have you listed under our company insurance policy.

ATV and ARGO Training

All supervisors must have ATV and ARGO training. These trainings can be very busy, so it can take some patience and planning to get a training day in.

It is expected that all of these documents and trainings be complete before your shovel goes in the ground.  We are here to help, please keep in communication with your Shakti Contact while going through this process, we love to hear your feedback.
