Employee Onboarding
Welcome to Shakti
This document is a summary of steps required to be come a Shakti employee.
at this point, you should already have a Primary Shakti Contact, this will either be your immediate supervisor, or the person who has hired you.
This person will be your first resource to connect with if you have any questions or need support with anything at all.
Shakti uses Signal to communicate, so please download this to your device as soon as possible and connect with your Shakti contact there to be added to relevant group chats.
You should also consider downloading Avenza, and Zoleo applications. You can discuss this with your Shakti contact and your crew boss to see if this is necessary for you.
If you choose to deepen your job experience within Shakti by becoming a Supervisor or a member of our Administrative Tree team, additional training will be required. This will be offered in a blend of additional Shakti courses, and some relevant one on one training and mentoring.
Shakti encourages you to engage with our training materials, and be curious to explore all the potentials that you have to grow with the company.
Step 1: Complete our employee info form.
This will be provided to you by whoever hired you.
Step 2: Federal and Provincial Tax Forms
These must be completed by every employee, every season.
Federal: Personal Tax Credits Return (canada.ca)
Provincial: Alberta Provincial Tax Credits Returns
Provincial: BC Provincial Tax Credits Returns
Once you have completed your signed tax forms, you can send a PDF to your Shakti contact, you can also upload your document yourself. If uploading yourself, be sure to check in with your Shakti contact that you are doing so correctly, this is incredibly important.
Step 3: Sign and return our Employee contract.
This will be sent to your email.
Step 4: Complete our General Training through our Shakti Classroom
This Shakti Classroom, acts as your virtual trainer, while our resource https://training.shaktitrees.com/ is your virtual textbook, containing all our Policies and Procedures. During this training it is encouraged that you reach out to your Shakti contact with any questions, we are here to help. If you are being hired as a Supervisor, there are additional modules for you to complete through Shakti Class.
Step 5: 3rd Party Safety Certifications
Being a part of Shakti means having incredibly high safety standards, We expect all our employees to have the following safety tickets Which you take and are reimbursed after you stay and work at Shakti for min 1 month;
First Aid
If you do not already have your First aid CPR-C & AED Certification, it is expected that you will complete the course within the first 30 days of working with Shakti. You can complete the course with any recognized training organizations like SJA Save your receipt to upload through our expense form, the cost of this course will be reimbursed by the company.
H2S
If you do not already have your H2S Certification, it is expected that you will complete the course within the first 30 days of working with Shakti. Save your receipt to upload through our expense form, The cost of this course will be reimbursed by the company.
We want to make things easy for you, We have a company house in Whitecourt, and have made connections within the community so that our employees can complete these trainings and stay in the shared home.
A Team Training & Consulting in Whitecourt offer H2S trainings every Tuesday, and a blended first aid course, which can be completed half online and half in person, with the in person class running every Friday.
Drug and Alcohol Testing
Required to work for Shakti Reforestation is a 5 Panel drug and alcohol test, these tests are valid for 30 days, so please try to complete the panel as close to your first work day as possible. You may even need to complete more than 1 during the season, depending on the request of our clients. You can complete this with any approved Drug and Alcohol testing service, so long as it is a 5 panel. Feel free to book yourself in for your local area or you can get the test done in Whitecourt while staying at the company house. Shakti has an account with 1st call Health and Safety which means that you can simply book your test under Shakti and it will be paid for automatically, rather than paying for it and expensing it.
You will need a valid common safety orientation certificate. Please book yourself in and pay for the program, keep your receipt and use the expense form to be reimbursed for your training. CSO's do not expire, so if you have already completed this course please pass your certificate onto your Shakti Contact or upload yourself. If you choose to upload yourself it is important that you advise your Shakti contact so they are aware of your progress and can check that it is filed correctly.
WHMIS
You will need a valid WHMIS certificate. Please book yourself in and pay for the program, keep your receipt and use the expense pay form to be reimbursed for your training. Below are listed some links to WHIMIS courses, If you already have your certification and it is still valid please pass your certificate onto your Shakti Contact or upload yourself. If you choose to upload yourself it is important that you advise your Shakti contact so they are aware of your progress and can check that it is filed correctly.

Additional Certification
Depending on your job you may also need:
Drivers Abstract/ Driver's License
If you would like to be a driver at any point during the season, we will need a photo of your drivers license and a valid drivers abstract, you get this from whichever your province your license is from.
We need this information so we can have you listed under our company insurance policy.
ATV Training
It is an asset for our workers to have ATV and or Argo certification, if you are willing, this option is presented to you before starting the season or before starting a contract. Our forester Brant offers ATV training through his own third party outfit. Please go through Brant for this training to avoid unnecessary expenses. These trainings can be very busy, so it can take some patience and planning to get a training day in. In the mean time, you can complete this online Shakti ATV Training form .
